Opinion

Thanks for coverage

I just wanted to say “thank you” to reporter Tiffany Green, as well as The Cullman Times, for the great write-up on our recent event, Christmas4Kids. ....more>>

  • Law needs to go away
We can’t blame Cullman County Sheriff Tyler Roden for keeping any money left over after feeding the jail’s inmates. After all, he’s only following the law.
We just think it’s an incredibly stupid law.

  • Guardian angels
Recently, my seven-year-old son was found walking along County Road 1212 in midnight, while in someone else’s care. He had almost made it to Highway 157, when he was picked up by what can only be described as guardian angels.

  • Have more respect for atheists
In Lakeheath Air Force base during a mandatory meeting a chaplain criticized the beliefs of atheists/humanists as essentially inferior to that of Christians or religious believers and that those who were atheists or humanists had purposeless lives or no hope. Now, this I am sure is a popular position among most Americans.

  • These are depressing times
The news outlets report the depressing economic numbers. Commentators then spend some time repeating the same thing in different words. That last bit unnecessarily worsens our attitudes.

  • Thankful for care at VA nursing home
My husband was a patient at the William F. Green Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Bay Minette, Ala., for two-and-a-half years. The treatment and care that he received was above reproach.

  • TIMES EDITORIAL: Our wish list for 2009
Here are some things on our wish list for 2009:

  • Tax hike would impact Hanceville
Mayor Kenneth Nail and the Hanceville City Council plan to increase the citizens of Hanceville electric bill by 3 percent.

  • Oversensitivity to animals
I don’t know about you, but I think this is pure foolishness. Yet it’s just one of many statements and actions perpetuated by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and its members and leaders.

  • TIMES EDITORIAL: KKK racists don't speak for Cullman
While many people may have assumed the Klan had disappeared, relegated to the most embarrassing pages of America’s history books alongside slavery and segregation, this unsavory group is still around.
