A Message from the Chairman

Linda Washington is the Chairperson of the Local Federal Coordinating Committee (LFCC) of the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA). It is this “LFCC” that actually runs our CFC—and it is made up of Federal employees, employees just like Linda and like you. The LFCC has several key leadership roles, including: determining the eligibility of charities listed in the 2008 Catalog of Caring, overseeing the CFCNCA to ensure Federal regulations are adhered to, and, to the extent possible, every Federal employee is given an informed opportunity to give through the CFC. Below, is a message to you from Linda:

Dear Fellow Federal Employees:

As Chairperson of the Local Federal Coordinating Committee (LFCC), I can say that the LFCC is pleased to provide the oversight for this year’s Combined Federal Campaign of the National Area (CFCNCA). The LFCC is comprised of Federal employees and representatives of labor unions. We have several key leadership roles, including determining the eligibility of charities listed in the 2008 Catalog of Caring, ensuring that the campaign adheres to all Federal regulations governing CFC, and making certain that every Federal employee is given an informed opportunity to give through the CFC.

Last year, the generous Federal employees in the National Capital Area made pledges totaling almost $60.8 million dollars to participating charities, an $885,000 increase over the prior campaign. We would like to thank all who participated for their part in making it such a success and for offering help and hope to those in need. We invite you to participate once again this year. If you haven’t donated in the past, please consider by doing so either by payroll deduction or by making a one-time gift in the form of cash or check.

There are almost 4,000 approved charities in this year’s CFCNCA campaign, so please take time to look over the 2008 Catalog of Caring and find one or more that speaks to your heart. When you give through the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area, you become a star in someone’s life. As a famous poet once wrote, “Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.”
