Education Focus:
GRECC's multidisciplinary education activities are closely aligned with the Center on Aging (Geriatrics Institute),
Florida's Teaching Nursing Home, the Miami Area Geriatric Education Center, and the Miami Jewish Home and
Hospital for the Aged. The center supports a wide array of educational research, especially on the role of
e-learning in undergraduate (UME), graduate (GME), and continuing medical education (CME). In UME,
curriculum development utilizes a variety of learning methodologies in a longitudinal theme traversing all four
years of medical school; in GME, internal medicine residents rotate through a combined GEM/Palliative Care
Unit with multidisciplinary education, including interdisciplinary geriatric care team development; in CME,
education in the recognition and assessment of geriatrics syndromes occurs through the use of online training
of community physicians and allied healthcare disciplines. The geriatric medicine fellowship program, including the advanced fellowship, emphasizes competency-based approaches to care for frail elders.
Clinical Focus:
Home care programs, including telehealth; long term care with culture change; geriatric musculoskeletal disorders,
especially osteoporosis and falls; geriatric endocrinology and adult-onset diabetes; palliative care; geriatric primary care; geriatric evaluation and management.
