Work for Las Vegas Review-Journal or reviewjournal.com
The Las Vegas Review-Journal is a 167,000-circulation morning daily serving the Las Vegas valley, one of the fastest-growing areas in the nation. We are Nevada's largest newspaper and have more than 750 employees.
Jobs listed in this section are not all-inclusive, but generally represent non-entry-level positions that require higher levels of knowledge and experience.
Any job offer which may be made is contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug screen, and may, depending on the position, be subject to a background investigation. The Review-Journal is a member of the Stephens Media Group, and is an equal opportunity employer.
Open Positions
Intern
Duties: The Las Vegas Review-Journal, Nevada's largest newspaper, is seeking applications for its summer internship. The 2009 intern will work on the City Desk. The City Desk intern typically fills a variety of assignments, from cops to courts to only-in-Vegas features. The job involves some general assignment work and filling in for vacationing staff writers, as well as opportunities to generate your own stories. Our staff has no dead weight, and interns are expected to hit the ground running. Expect to pitch in on weekends and work some long shifts.
Qualifications: Experience with a college publication or another newspaper is required. A previous internship is a plus. Applicants should have experience covering breaking news and writing on deadline. They should know how to craft a snappy lead and have a clean, refined writing style that keeps a reader's attention. A reliable vehicle of your own is another requirement; road trips to other Southern Nevada communities are common.
We paid $500 per week ($12.50 per hour) in 2008 and expect the pay will be about the same for 2009. Starting and ending dates are negotiable, depending on when the school year begins and finishes. We like to have the intern available for at least 12 weeks.
Those interested should send a cover letter, a resume with three references and five diverse clips showing spot news, deadline reporting and news feature experience. Send your packets to:
