Alternatives for Use & Management of "Compost Tea"
Project Summary:
Liquid runoff, or "compost tea", is generated during the composting
process and must be contained and treated. This project evaluated methods
to both minimize and beneficially recycle liquid runoff from compost
piles and processes.
Tea from the Woodland Park Zoo manure composting was pasteurized and
tested in actual applications. Additionally, a compost facility's runoff
was evaluated to create a simulation model for estimating runoff generation
rates at different facilities and help determine best practices for
runoff management.
