Stephen Lewis to kick off Fogarty's 40th anniversary Scholars in Residence seriesTo mark its 40th anniversary, Fogarty is presenting a series of Scholars in Residence throughout the year. Please join us for our first guest lecturer, Stephen Lewis, Co-Director of AIDS-Free World and former UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa. Race Against Time: Searching for Hope in AIDS-Ravaged Africa As a politician, diplomat and international envoy for humanitarian efforts, Stephen Lewis has dedicated himself to improving the human condition. He is a passionate advocate for initiatives that control HIV and empower women in health, and is a visionary on moving public health programs into action. Formerly the UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa for Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Mr. Lewis is Co-Director of AIDS-Free World, an international advocacy organization that works to promote more urgent and effective global responses to HIV/AIDS. Mr. Lewis is a Professor of Global Health at McMaster University and Senior Advisor to the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. He also served as Deputy Director of UNICEF and as Canadian Ambassador to the UN. He is author of the best-selling book, Race Against Time: Searching for Hope in AIDS-Ravaged Africa.
