Important Notice

Effective immediately, the consular sections of the American Embassy in Tokyo and the American Consulate General in Naha will accept family-based I-130 petitions filed by American citizens who have been resident in Japan for at least the preceding 6 months.


Persons wishing to reside permanently in the United States will need an immigrant visa. The most common categories of Immigrant Visas are:

A limited number of individuals may benefit from the Life Act.

Due to security considerations, there is no longer an information window for walk-in visitors. Only those with appointments or with business, such as reporting a lost greencard, will be admitted to the Visa Section.
