A food contact notification (FCN No. 453), submitted by Albemarle Poultry Sciences, LLC, to provide for the safe use of 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DBDMH) as an antimicrobial agent in water used in poultry processing to disinfect poultry carcasses and their parts and organs, at a level not to exceed that needed to provide the equivalent of 100 parts per million (ppm) of available bromine (90 mg DBDMH per kg water)
The Environmental Review Group has determined that allowing this notification to become effective will not significantly affect the quality of the human environment and therefore will not require the preparation of an environmental impact statement. This finding is based on information submitted by the notifier in an environmental assessment dated July 8, 2004.
