What is BRDC?

BRDC is a unique biotechnology consortium that combines government, academia and the private sector together in close working relationships.

As a consortium, BRDC is a research management corporation that is owned by its corporate sponsors, each of whom has a stock equity position in the consortium. These equity partners include small publicly-owned biotechnology companies—and some of the recognized world leaders in agriculture, biotechnology and healthcare.

What does BRDC do?

BRDC does not conduct research or employ its own scientific staff. Rather, we utilize a pool of dollars from governmental grants, shareholder contributions and licensing income to seek out and fund research programs of interest to our shareholder companies.

By using funds from a variety of sources, we leverage each participant's investment many fold. How? We select only the brightest minds to research the most promising issues. With our small, efficient staff, we garner this scientific talent and expertise from academic, federal and corporate laboratories.

Keeping our focus

Our focus remains on research with true commercial potential—all within the general research areas of animal healthcare, plant sciences, biocatalysis and materials science (for more information, CLICK HERE).

To maintain our focus, we utilize the input of our Scientific Advisory Boardsā€¹comprised of scientists from shareholder companies, the USDA's Agricultural Research Service and external consultants. These advisory boards review all research proposals and make recommendations for funding.
