The Markets for Ecosystem Services Project is an initiative aimed
at improving natural resource management by building regional
Australia's capacity to create markets for ecosystem services.
The ultimate aim is learning through action. We seek to work
with appropriate groups in case study areas and establish pilots
that utilise market-based mechanisms (e.g. offset trading) for
regional natural resource management.
CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems, The Rural Industries Research and
Development Corporation and Land & Water Australia initiated
the Markets for Ecosystem Services Project, with significant funding
provided by RIRDC and the Joint Venture Agroforestry Program (JVAP).
Case studies will be
run in:
- The Goulburn Broken Catchment, Victoria
- The Blackwood Basin, WA
- The Murrumbidgee Catchment, NSW.
