Marin Headlands Fort Baker Transportation Plan Alternatives

The NPS has completed a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Marin Headlands and Fort Baker Transportation Infrastructure and Management Plan. The project would provide greater access to and within the Marin Headlands and Fort Baker for a variety of users in a way that minimizes impacts to the rich natural diversity and cultural resources of the Marin Headlands and Fort Baker.

The project is needed because the Marin Headlands and Fort Baker are difficult to access via transit because of limited service in the area. The transportation infrastructure is in poor condition, with 30-year-old asphalt and undersized, plugged, and collapsed culverts. The park roads lack sufficient shoulder space for pedestrians and bicyclists. Parking areas are poorly designed, and parking often occurs in areas that are not designed for parking use.

The DEIS is available for public review and comment until August 13, 2007 (60 day review period).    Click here to view and comment on the document  online.

A public meeting will be held at the Bay Model in Sausalitoon July 18, 2007 from 5:00 - 7:30 pm. This meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to learn about the project and to ask questions to the project team.

It is anticipated that the Final EIS would be completed in fall 2007. A Record of Decision is expected in winter 2008.
