In August 2006, the California Department of Fish And Game designated a broad network of 29 marine protected areas (MPAs) along California's central coast. This decision, made possible in part with Foundation support, will help to protect more than 200 square miles—roughly 55,000 average city blocks—of waters along the state's shoreline from Pigeon Point to Point Conception.
