The Best Widget Doesn't Always Win

Since Forum Nokia didn't ask me to be a judge, I don't have a lot to say -- but I'll say this anyway: I liked Marco Lobb's "Shoppy" widget, which came in second place at Nokia's 24-hour Hackathon, better than David  Guerrero's first place "Rocket" widget.

Porting D to FreeBSD

It took me about 6 weeks to get D ported to the Mac OSX. During this, I learned that OSX was based on BSD unix. The Digital Mars web server is hosted on a FreeBSD system, and Jan Knepper who manages that had been encouraging me to look at FreeBSD for years. So I thought it was an ideal time to try it out.

What is PIE Theory?

Two interesting things happened last week. First, someone posted a comment to a previous blog of mine on JavaFX, pointing to a site called www.pietheory.com. Then, they requested to follow me on Twitter (@ericjbruno). Since I was traveling at the time, I visited the site via my iPhone, and thought it was very odd. It turns out that it's an online game where you receive challenges that involve writing JavaFX Script code to solve.
