Material and Supply Inputs to Construction Industries in the
Producer Price Index Program
Due to a processing error, relative importance figures, indexes,
and percent changes for the material and supply inputs to construction
industries indexes were incorrect from January 2002 through April 2002. Incorrect values appeared both on the BLS
website from February 15, 2002
through June 12, 2002 and
in the January 2002 through April 2002 editions of the PPI Detailed Report. The
table below shows the corrected index values. The corrected data are subject to normal PPI procedures that recalculate
and finalize 4-month-ago values. The BLS
regrets any inconvenience these errors may have caused data users. For further information, call the Section of
Index Analysis and Public Information at (202) 691-7705.

1 Indexes in this table are derived from the primary
product indexes in table 5 of the PPI Detailed Report that are weighted
using 1992 input/output relationships and 1997 weights. These indexes only include inputs to construction
which are produced by the mining and manufacturing sectors of the economy,
excluding capital equipment. Since they
do not include labor or capital costs, these indexes should not be regarded as
comprehensive measures of changes in construction costs. See note on page 190 of the July 1986 issue
of Producer Price Indexes.
2 The indexes for January 2002 have been recalculated
to incorporate late reports and corrections by respondents. All data are subject to revision 4 months
after original publication.
