FDA Advisory Committees

The FDA has 31 advisory committees, one of which, the Medical Devices Advisory Committee, has 18 panels. The committees are divided along product lines (e.g., food, devices, drugs, and biologics) and body system (e.g., cardiovascular or gastrointestinal products). Committees are either mandated by statute or established at the discretion of the Department of Health and Human Services. Each committee is subject to renewal at two-year intervals unless the committee's charter states otherwise.
