Membership participation is needed in the following areas:

Membership Development Committee (MDC)
Join the NAGC Membership Development Committee, which needs volunteers to help spread the word about NAGC and build your association’s membership rolls. Any and all aspects of membership development are open to your talents, interests, and contributions. As an MDC committee member you could develop targeted prospective member lists; run a direct mail campaign from start to finish; staff the NAGC recruitment booth at conferences/exhibits; act as an “NAGC Ambassador” by co-hosting or attending special recruiting-related events; draft promotional copy and work with brochure designers; or follow-up on initial contacts with prospective members in person, by e-mail, or by phone.

Grant Writers
Think you can write a convincing proposal? Grant writers are needed to help with fundraising for the association. Hone your writing skills and prove your mettle at the same time. Succeed here and demonstrate another proven skill to your current or future employer.

Membership Directory
One of the most important benefits to our members is the NAGC membership directory, a valuable reference tool used by government agencies, headhunters, and the media across the country. Your help is needed to keep the membership directory updated, accurate, and looking sharp. Adding advertising to the document is a possibility, and expertise is needed to make this happen.

Marketing Plan
If the “Four P’s” get your creative juices flowing, NAGC needs marketing savvy gurus like you to help promote the association and whet the appetites of potential exhibitors and members. Your only limitation is your imagination.

Mentor Program
Put your years of solid communications experience to good use. Help establish a meaningful mentoring program within NAGC today, and help prepare the government communicators of tomorrow.

Discussion List Leaders
Provoke thought, solicit suggestions, and encourage discussion of the hottest topics in communications for our six online-special interest groups, which include:

  • Publications (includes design, graphics, content, and publishing)
  • Media Relations (for press secretaries, public information officers, public affairs staff)
  • Web Sites (includes content, technology and management)
  • Audio-Visual (includes production and content)
  • Writing and Editing
  • Emergency Management Communicators

Development of Web Site “Members Only” Content
Collect case studies, resource pieces, lessons learned, best practices, and product samples from NAGC members to share with fellow members in our Members Only Web site resource area.

Webinar Production
Got a penchant for IT and AV? Experienced NAGC volunteers are needed to assist in setting up Webinars and Webcasts.

Newsletter
NAGC members are needed to develop and solicit strong story ideas for insightful articles as well as regular columns and features for the quarterly newsletter. Volunteers can also sign up for the Editorial Committee and help determine the editorial calendar, proofread the newsletter before publication, and generally ensure it is a useful publication. We need a coordinator to organize and facilitate Board member articles. We also need a writer willing to interview one member each quarter and write a member profile column that would contain the member’s photo, hometown, state, work place, contact information, accomplishments, education, most achievements, why working in government, and future goals.

Board Candidates
Run for office and say “Yes!” on government job applications. A recently noted trend has been to ask job-seeking candidates if they “hold or have ever held an officer position” in a professional society or organization. Nominate yourself as a Board candidate or solicit fellow members as candidates for the Board, either online or at the Communications School.

Blue Pencil & Gold Screen Awards Committee
Join this committee and help review and revamp the process and the policies for the Blue Pencil & Gold Screen Awards Competition.

Blue Pencil & Gold Screen Awards Judge
Want to be on the cutting edge of print, audiovisual, and electronic communications? Become a judge and help evaluate one or more of the Blue Pencil & Gold Screen Awards categories. This is where the action is.

Program Committee
The NAGC Program Committee plans and implements the largest and most important annual event hosted by our association – the NAGC Communications School – from menus to entertainment, from speakers to optional activities. The Program Committee encompasses the following subcommittees that include committee members who work on specific tasks: General Session and Keynote Address Presenters; Training Session Presenters; Training Workshops; Optional Activities and Educational Tours; and Fundraising Events.

Web Site Committee
NAGC needs a cadre of those interested in regularly visiting the Web site to ensure that it is useful and timely. The Committee works with the Board to determine a regular schedule of enhancements and prioritize new online features to maintain the online portal to the association.
