Summary of Actions

bulletNominations - Mark Nelson (Nestle), the Chair of the Nominations Committee, presented the following slate of Candidates for election to Division Positions: Chair-Elect - Cathy Adams (McDonalds); Secretary: - Carolyn Fisher (McCormidk); Members at Large of the Executive Committee:
George Burdock (The Burdock Group); Ricardo Carvajal (Hyman, Phelps and McNamara), Tony Pavel (KLGates) and Sarah Roller (Covington and Burling)
bulletMark will be sending out the ballot soon.
bulletMembership Dues were increased by $3 from $7 to $10 the dues amount charged by most other divisions - Student dues will be $5 - The Executive Committee will decide how the additional income will be used, but probably to support additional student participation in Division activities.
bulletDivision Sponsored Short Courses on Food Laws and Regulation and Food Labeling - Robert Post (USDA CNPP), the Chair of the Division Short Course Committee, received approval to follow IFT procedures for the presentation of division sponsored short courses on these topics at varying locations around the country - The IFT procedures to be followed are posted at http://members.ift.org/IFT/Communities/Volunteer+Leaders/iftDivisionEduG

bulletReport of the Student Representatives to the Division - Caitlin Boon
and Laura Pillsbury, both students at the University of Massachusetts presented the report of the Student Representatives to the Division
bulletGeorge Burdock Division Student Travel and Luncheon Ticket Award Program - Susan Abraham, Committee Chair reported that March 14 is the deadline for the receipt of student applications and that ten applications had already been received. Dr. Burdock is contributing $1,000 to the Division to support two $500 Travel Awards and the Division is sponsoring one $500 Travel Award and ten luncheon tickets so that winning students may attend the Division Annual Meeting and Luncheon.
bulletDivision By-Laws - Riette van Laack (Hyman, Phelps and McNamara), the Chair of the By-Laws Committee presented revised by-laws to reflect the elimination of the Councilor and Alternate Councilor positions - Following discussion, the by-laws will again be considered during the next meeting in New Orleans. Jack Cooper suggested that the by-laws be amended to include the addition of a the position of a Treasurer with a vote, the Position of Division Representative to the Strategic Leadership Forum with a vote; and that the current by-laws objectives of the Division concerning keeping the membership up to date with important developments and making information available on course curricula be reconsidered.

bulletMike Falk (Life Sciences Research Office), Division Chair-Elect, provided a review of tomorrow's Mid-Year Meeting.
bulletRicardo Carvajal (HPM), the Chair of the Division Annual Meeting Program Committee and Marilyn Schorin (Schorin Strategies), the Division Representative to the IFT Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee about Division sponsored symposia and other division activities during the IFT Annual Meeting in New Orleans
bulletBetty Bugusu (IFT Staff), the Chair of the Division Codex Activities Committee, presented the Committee report.
bulletDavid Haytowitz (USDA ARS), the Division Web Master, reviewed updates to the Division Home Page.
bulletThe Division Budget for Sep 08 through Aug 09 was discussed and adopted
bulletGail Wiseman (IFT Staff) led a discussion of ideas of how the Division can better serve the membership.
bulletDivision Sponsorship of Travel Expenses for Invited Speakers for Division Symposia and other Division Activities during the IFT Annual Meeting - This topic was extensively discussed; a committee to address the topic will be appointed and the topic will be addressed again during the next meeting of the Executive Committee in New Orleans

The Division sponsored a reception and dinner for members of the Executive Committee and speakers participating in the Division "Mid-Year" Meeting, during which participants discussed ways in which the Division can be more effective in providing services to the membership.
