About this site

How are girls involved with the web site?

Did you ever wonder if you can make a difference on a national level? You CAN! The Sounding Board is a panel of young women (ages 10-17) with diverse backgrounds. They provide ongoing feedback on adolescent girls’ health programs to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women's Health.  Check out who they are and read a little bit about them.

Adelina

Adelina

I am very proud to be a full Mexican girl with such a great family. I love running, and soccer is my favorite sport. I like to laugh a lot because I think that as long as I am happy and I enjoy every single moment of my life, I will have a healthy life. Likewise I try to eat healthy whenever I can. I have traveled to different countries, and I hope I would continue to do so. A few other things that I like include snowboarding, listening to music, and spending time with my friends and family.

Alex

Alex

I live in Nebraska, which is a great state, and not just cows and corn! I love acting, singing, giving speeches, Future Farmers of America(FFA), golfing, and of course shopping! Things that are very important to me are my family, friends, heritage (I'm half Afghani), and education. But the most important thing to me is my voice and right to have that voice. We all have thoughts, ideas, and opinions. We shouldn't be afraid to share them. I try to stay healthy not only by eating right and exercising, but by having a healthy attitude. I try to keep good relationships with people and be open to everyone from different walks of life.

Ayla

Ayla

I live in Oklahoma and I spend a lot of my time throughout the year dancing in Native American pow wows and traveling to pow wows in other states. I play varsity soccer and referee soccer, so it is important to keep my body healthy by eating healthy food. I try to stay away from fast food and drink water instead of soda. It is important to me to plan for a career in psychology, so I participate in Native American organizations focused on careers in medicine. My native culture is very important to me and keeps me grounded spiritually. Most of all I love my family and friends.

Betsy

Betsy

My name is Betsy, I'm 14 and I live in beautiful Etna, Wyoming. The population of this town is around 200 people. It is just a speck on a map. I love animals and have tons of pets: 1 guinea pig, 2 turtles, 1 horse, 5 cats, 3 dogs, 7 cats, and in the summer I have 3 sheep to raise for 4-H. I'm also in a lot of extracurricular activities, like yearbook, the National Junior Honor Society, Horse Warriors, 4-H and of course the girlshealth.gov Sounding Board. I love art and I'm one of the best in my class.

I was born in Malaysia in 1994 and moved to Columbia, Missouri in 1995. My dad is from Berkeley, California and my mom is from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I have two older (half) brothers who are married and have kids; they live in New York and New Jersey. I love computers and technology. My favorite band is Green Day. I am in a storytelling club that teaches us public speaking skills. I am also in the school band, playing the trumpet. I also have been taking piano lessons and studying Spanish, with private teachers, since I was 4. I also ballroom dance with my parents. I am very involved in school and hope to by a doctor when I grow up.

Erin

Erin

Hello! My name is Erin. I've lived in New Hampshire for my entire life and I'm a freshman at a private high school in Vermont. My dream is to work with orca whales, but I also love languages. I'm currently learning Spanish and Japanese. I stay fit by horseback riding, snowboarding, basketball, running, and cheerleading, which I do as a school sport in the fall and winter. I also try to eat healthy; I've been a vegetarian for four years and I plan on continuing this lifestyle. I look forward to helping design this web site to keep other girls my age in the know.

Joanna

Joanna

I'm Joanna. I live in sunny California. I love going to the beach, going shopping, and playing softball. Smiling and laughing is a must. Being healthy and fit is the way I live my life. Family, friends, and education are very important to me. I can't live without them. Live life to the fullest and always have fun.

Molly

I am from the beautiful beaches on the panhandle of Florida in a little fishing town called Destin. I am 16-years-old and I'm a sophomore honor student in high school. I play on the tennis team for my high school and I absolutely love it. I stay healthy by eating lots of fruits and veggies and I also try to exercise everyday! My family and friends mean the world to me and without them, I would be nothing. I love my life and I am always trying new things so that everyday I can live life to the fullest!
