Infrastructure and Industrial Mineral Studies

Infrastructure (road, airports, water, energy, sewage, etc.) is vital to the sustainability and vitality of populated areas. Natural resources, such as natural aggregates (stone, sand, gravel), water, and energy, are integral to infrastructure development and maintenance. The proximity, accessibility, and quality of resources affect the cost of infrastructure.

The research objectives of scientists working on these projects are to characterize aggregate deposits, prepare deposit models, and to merge principles of landscape architecture with geologic information to develop new methodologies for the siting and reclamation of infrastructure resource operations. Scientific information provides land managers with tools for evaluation and informed decision making.
