Fight BAC!TM Reaches Milestone as Boy Scouts
Follow Girl Scouts Lead and Adopt Campaign

The National Boy Scout Jamboree is a nine-day festival of camping, fishing, scuba diving and earning merit badges. This year the Jamboree includes a merit badge course in public health--and 25% of that course focuses on food safety and the Fight BACTM Campaign of the Partnership for Food Safety Education (PFSE)! Nearly 40,000 Boy Scouts are attending the Jamboree that began July 23rd at Fort A.P. Hill VA. More than 3500 Fight BACTM handouts will be distributed as an integral part of the health classes. In addition, teachers have full-size Fight BACTM posters in their tent classrooms and are using the Middle School BAC Instructional Guide for the classes. Scouts helping prepare the 13 to 18 tons of food to be eaten at the Jamboree will receive Fight BACTM aprons.

This follows adoption of the Fight BACTM Campaign by the Girl Scouts late last year as a merit badge initiative for their younger members. So far the Girl Scouts have acquired almost 1500 Kindergarten through grade 3 (K-3) Presenter's Kits and 1100 Grades 4-6 Teacher's Kits and have involved 25,000 children.

The Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts have joined tens of thousands of elementary school children whose teachers are using the K-3 and 4-6 Fight BACTM instructional packages. With the debut of the new PFSE/National Science Teachers Association Middle and High School BAC Instructional Guides set for September, the Fight BACTM Campaign will be reaching the entire educational system from Kindergarten to Grade 12 with reinforcement for thousands of young people through their involvement with scouting.

In only its fourth year the Fight BACTM Campaign appears to be on it's way to becoming an integral part of American life.
