MUTCD Disclaimer
Inclusion on this site does not constitute FHWA endorsement. The purpose
is only to encourage State and local transportation professionals to
think about and implement innovative ways to improve or design pedestrian
facilities. Many of these devices may not be included in the Federal
Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Before using any
traffic control device that is not included in the MUTCD, the interested
State or locality should submit a request for permission to experiment
to FHWA's Office of Highway Safety (HHS-10), 400 Seventh Street SW,
Washington, DC 20590. Guidelines for conducting an experiment can be
found at the FHWA Office of Highway Safety web site containing information
related to the MUTCD (mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/kno-amend.htm).
