Travel Management Team

The Travel Management Team researches, tests, evaluates, develops, and improves advanced hardware and software technologies and tools to evaluate and mitigate recurring and non-recurring congestion. Some  products are deployed in the field, such as Adaptive Control Software (ACS) and ACS Lite, enabling the transportation system to be managed in a real-time, dynamic manner. Other products include software tools, such as QuickZone and DYNASMART-P, which allow transportation practitioners to analyze traffic conditions and evaluate traffic operations and ITS strategies before they are deployed in the field.

Adaptive Control Software (ACS)
Adjusts signal timing to accommodate changing traffic patterns. These decentralized prototypes operate at the local intersection level. A report is available on CD-ROM.

Adaptive Control Software Lite (ACS Lite)
A reduced-scale version of the ACS that offers small and medium-size communities a low-cost traffic control system that operates in real time.

Advanced Transportation Controller and Cabinet
The next generation of hardware that will support multiple advanced transportation applications. Specifications for advanced transportation controllers, cabinets, and applications program interfaces have been developed to assure interchangeability and interoperability between application programs and hardware.

Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA) Program
Uses expert computer processing to develop Traffic Estimation and Prediction Systems (TrEPS) that predict where and when drivers travel on the road network. TrEPS enable dynamic control and management systems to anticipate problems before they occur, rather than simply reacting to existing conditions. Two software systems for online traffic prediction and two for offline traffic operations planning were developed and tested. The two online systems, DynaMIT-R and DYNASMART-X, are being field tested at traffic management centers for real-time traffic management. The offline systems, DynaMIT-P and DYNASMART-P, are being used in several region-wide traffic management projects. DYNASMART-P is publicly available through the McTrans Center (http://mctrans.ce.ufl.edu).

Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) Initiative
The ICM Initiative will provide guidance to assist agencies in implementing Integrated Corridor Operations; create supporting analysis tools, approaches, and technical standards; and demonstrate the value of ICM.

ITS Deployment Analysis System (IDAS)
A software tool designed for transportation planners to estimate the costs and benefits of ITS development and strategies. IDAS can predict the relative costs and benefits of over 60 types of ITS investments. IDAS is publicly available through the McTrans Center (http://mctrans.ce.ufl.edu).

Next Generation Simulation (NGSIM)
The objective of the NGSIM program is to develop a core of open driver behavior algorithms that support microscopic traffic simulation, including supporting documentation and detailed validation data sets that describe the interactions of travelers, vehicles, and highway systems. These products will be openly distributed and made freely available to the broad transportation community.

Publications
Strategic Work Zone Analysis Tools (SWAT)
A suite of user-friendly computer software that accurately analyzes and reliably predicts work zone impacts during preplanning, planning, design, and operation of construction or maintenance phases.

QuickZone is a SWAT to estimate delay in and around work zones. It is an open-source, Microsoft® Excel®-based application suitable for both urban and inter-urban corridor analyses. QuickZone is publicly available through the McTrans Center (http://mctrans.ce.ufl.edu).

Traffic Research Lab (TReL)
Contains sophisticated computers and traffic signal control hardware that operate in a controlled environment to allow researchers to fully assess the efficiency, safety, and mobility benefits (or disadvantages) of strategies before they are deployed in the field.

Traffic Software Integrated System (TSIS)
A collection of sophisticated software tools for use by traffic analysts to simulate traffic conditions and evaluate alternative operational improvements on surface streets, freeways, or a combination of both. Corridor Simulation (CORSIM) is the primary tool within TSIS that models the movements of individual vehicles throughout the simulated roadway network. TSIS is publicly available through the McTrans Center (http://mctrans.ce.ufl.edu).
