FR 2416

Weekly Report of Assets and Liabilities for Large Banks

Description: This report collects detailed information on assets and liabilities from large U.S. commercial banks. Data collected on this report parallel the quarterly Consolidated Reports of Condition and Income (Call Report).

OMB: 7100-0075

Purpose: Data from this report, together with data from the Weekly Report of Selected Assets (FR 2644) and the Weekly Report of Assets and Liabilities for Large U.S. Branches and Agencies of Foreign Banks (FR 2069), are used to construct estimates of bank credit, sources and uses of bank funds, and a balance sheet for the entire banking system. The data are collected weekly to provide for accurate and timely construction of the key series used to analyze current banking developments and monetary conditions.

Background: This report has been collected from selected banks since December 1917. Since that time, the data items and the respondent panel have been revised to reflect developments in the banking industry. Many items on the current weekly report reflect specialized data needs associated with the estimation of other series, such as the monetary aggregates, bank credit, nondeposit funds, and consumer credit. Each year, when changes are made on the Call Report, the corresponding items on the FR 2416 are also revised, as appropriate, to maintain consistent definitions.

Respondent Panel: The panel consists of most U.S. commercial banks with assets of $40 billion or more as of December 2006. Participation is voluntary.

Frequency: Weekly, as of the close of business each Wednesday, providing for accurate and timely construction of the key series used to analyze current banking developments.

Public Release: Aggregate data are published in the weekly Assets and Liabilities of Commercial Banks in the United States (H.8) statistical release (http://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/) and in the Federal Reserve Bulletin. Microdata are confidential.
