Coast Guard Gives Safety Training To Vietnamese Fishermen (1.58 MB)
BELLE CHASSE, La. – Scott Labak, a U.S. Coast Guard civilian fishing vessel safety instructor, demonstrates the steps involved with lighting a flare to a group of Vietnamese and Cambodian fishermen here, today. The Coast Guard provided a boating safety course for the fishermen, with Coast Guard Lt. Thao V. Nguyen translating the training into Vietnamese while civilian Tam Nguyen translated it into Cambodian. “Most of them don’t know how to light a flare, or depoly a liferaft, said Coast Guard Lt. Thao V. Nguyen. "They need to know how to use them, and that’s why we’re here.” The Coast Guard provided flares, a life raft, whistles, a display for proper damage control and a safety slide show for the training. KENNER, La. (May 21, 2005) - Coast Guard Auxiliarist Dan Hall, 62, of La Place, La., affixes an inspection decal today to a recreational pleasure boat to signify that it was inspected by the Auxiliary and conforms to federal safety requirements. Hall is a member of Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 49 and inspected the boat as a part of a joint-agency effort to promote National Safe Boating week in Kenner. NEW ORLEANS(Sept. 9)- A boatcrew from Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Cincinnatti patrols the Ohio River, Sept. 4, during the Cincinatti River Fest. Coast Guard crews worked alongside boatcrews from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Watercraft, Kentucky Game and Fish, Harrison County Sheriff's Department, Covington, Ky., Police Department and Boone County Fire and Rescue to ensure the safety of boaters enjoying the event.
