Boarding 27 commercial fishing vessels and two pleasure crafts within 10 days can be quite taxing on any Coast Guard crew.  Fortunately, the crew aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Valiant, homeported in Miami, rose to the challenge between April 25 and May 5 during a living marine resource patrol in the Gulf of Mexico.  In all, the crew of the Valiant sited the vessels with 103 violations, resulting in three vessel terminations.
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans orchestrated the operation, nicknamed Operation Leviathan, and in addition to the Valiant, included personnel from:
    • Coast Guard Station Grand Isle, La.
    • Coast Guard Station Venice, La.
    • Coast Guard Cutter Razorbill, homeported in Gulfport, Miss.
    • Coast Guard Cutter Pompano, homeported in Grand Isle
    • Coast Guard Cutter Sturgeon, homeported in Grand Isle
    • Coast Guard Cutter Pelican, homeported in Abbeville, La.
    • Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans
    • Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala.
