DU Alumni and Lifelong Learning

Alumni in Class

DU alumni take part in a class taught at our alumni symposium. The Second Annual DU Alumni Symposium will be Oct. 3-4 on campus.

At DU, our alumni come back to campus for more than nostalgia.

Our annual Alumni Symposium gives our graduates a chance to re-kindle their intellectual passion and re-connect with the University through a weekend of class sessions with DU’s best professors. Participants can choose from a host of class subjects that include business, environmental issues, art, entertainment, literature, astronomy, history, law, politics and more.

This year’s symposium, which is free to our alumni, includes two more class sessions on Friday afternoon. The symposium will also include keynote addresses by two distinguished DU alumni—David Von Drehle (BA ’83), editor-at-large of Time Magazine and Pamela Turbeville (MBA ’83), CEO of Navistar Financial Corporation.

“During the inaugural Alumni Symposium and in the year since, we’ve seen great excitement among our alumni about the event,” said Ed Harris, vice chancellor for University Advancement. “Returning to campus to re-engage with faculty is an opportunity offered by few universities, and we are pleased to welcome our alumni for this annual event.”

Rave reviews

Alumni who attended last year’s symposium ranged from those who had already attended their 50th reunions to those not even a year out. No matter when they graduated, participants enjoyed the experience.

“It’s great to be able to re-live the intellectual part of college, to engage in a higher level of discussion,” said Brent Neiser (MGS ’05).

“The weekend exceeded my expectations,” said Bob Morehead (BSBA ’56). Morehead said that when he was a student, he commuted to take classes at the business school, then located downtown. Now, he is thrilled to see the changes on campus and in the classroom and expressed his confidence that DU is moving in the right direction.

“The weekend gave me a much better cross-section of campus [and] an opportunity to see some cross pollination on campus,” said Susannah Pedigo (MBA ’06).

“The facilities here are just amazing now,” said Sheryl Smyth, (MBA ’89, JD ’94).
“I was so impressed by the classes. Everything is state of the art.”
