About the Authors
The authors of this book, Kenneth VerBurg and Raymond D. Vlasin, had lengthy careers in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University.
Both held positions in Lifelong Education during the 1980s — Vlasin as dean and VerBurg as associate dean. They also held positions in the Department of Resource Development. Vlasin served as department chairperson during the 1970s and later as professor. VerBurg was a professor in the department during the 1990s.
The careers of both VerBurg and Vlasin involved a good deal of outreach. VerBurg's efforts focused on services to county, city, and township government officials through educational programs and publications. Vlasin's outreach efforts concentrated on economic development. Vlasin was named a University distinguished professor in 1992.
Now retired, both are grateful for the opportunity to research the rich history of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and to share the experience with readers. They hope the readers, too, will gain new knowledge of the significance of the college and the institution they have come to know and love.
