Illinois State Police reach milestone with 10,000th Automated Fingerprint Identification System latent print hit

Illinois State Police (ISP) Director Larry G. Trent today announced the agency recorded its 10,000th fingerprint identification using the NEC Corporation of America Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). AFIS is a computerized database of fingerprints from known individuals and unknown latent fingerprints from crime scenes. Currently, there are over five million “ten print" fingerprint records on file at the Bureau of Identification in Joliet, Illinois, as well as approximately 12,300 unknown latent fingerprints.

Eighty-six new officers join Illinois State Police with graduation of Cadet Class 116

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois State Police (ISP) Director Larry G. Trent today announced the graduation of Cadet Class 116. The 86 new officers join 417 other Troopers who have graduated from the Illinois State Police Academy since 2003.

ISP, IDOT Kick Off You Drink & Drive, You Lose Campaign as New Law to Combat Drunk Drivers Gets Set to Take Effect

Illinois State Police and Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) officials announced at a news conference today details about the You Drink & Drive. You Lose campaign and efforts to keep impaired drivers off the streets this holiday season. They also discussed the new law that requires a Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device (BAIID) to be installed for first-time DUI offenders, which is set to take effect January 1, 2009.

November 23 marks the one year anniversary of a tragic car crash that took the lives of sisters Jessica and Kelli Uhl. On that tragic day, Illinois State Police (ISP) Trooper Matt Mitchell’s squad car crossed an I-64 median and collided into a car occupied by the two Collinsville sisters, killing both instantly.

Statewide crime rate fell by 3.6 percent in 2007

The Illinois State Police (ISP) today announced the Illinois crime rate fell 3.6 percent in 2007, with reports of murder and motor vehicle theft realizing the biggest decreases. Unlike 2006 when murder and robberies increased, none of the index crime categories increased last year. Index crime statistics compiled by the Illinois Uniform Crime Reporting Program are comprised of offenses considered to be the most prevalent and apt to be reported to law enforcement agencies. The eight index crimes include both crimes against persons (murder, criminal sexual assault, robbery, aggravated battery and aggravated assault) and crimes against property (burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson).

Blagojevich administration, Secretary of State team up with Ford and Allstate to launch second year of “Operation Teen Safe Driving"

Representatives of Governor Rod R. Blagojevich’s administration were joined today by Secretary of State Jesse White and corporate sponsors to kick off the second year of Operation Teen Safe Driving. The groundbreaking effort was designed to reduce teen crashes and save lives on Illinois’ roadways and is the first of its kind in the nation.
