Capitol Visitor CenterThe new Capitol Visitor Center opened its doors to the public on December 2, 2008. The brand new facility is nearly 580,000 square feet, approximately three quarters the size of the Capitol itself. The entire facility is located underground on the east side of the Capitol and offers dining facilities, two gift shops and stunning views of the Capitol Dome. There are also two new theaters which will show films about the history of Congress and the Capitol to better educate visitors and prepare them for their tours.

The new visitor center also features an Exhibition Hall which tells the story of our representative democracy and the building of the Capitol. Historic documents and
artifacts, a 10-foot model of the Capitol Dome and virtual House and Senate Theaters with live video feeds are also on display.
