Degas: The Dancers

November 22, 1984-March 10, 1985

Overview: 58 paintings, drawings, monotypes, and sculptures, created between 1870 and 1910, were assembled by guest curator George Shackelford, a former Finley fellow, in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Edgar Degas. Gaillard Ravenel and Mark Leithauser designed the exhibition and Gordon Anson designed the lighting. The exhibition was supported by an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities.

Attendance: 358,111 (105 days)

Location: East Building, Upper Level and Mezzanine, Northeast, Pod I (7,000 sq. ft.)
