We hope you enjoy these Mt. St. Helens Volcano Webcam
images. The VolcanoCam is very popular during clear
weather and a great way to watch for periodic ash and
steam eruptions. The Johnston Ridge Observatory
volcano cam is maintained by the USFS and is located 5
miles from the crater. A new Hi-def volcanocamera was
installed in 2007 which is seen above. The Mt St Helens
webcam located at the Mount St. Helens Forest Learning
Center is operated by the Washington State D.O.T.
If you look at the Volcano Cam during clear nights you can
see the hot lava dome glowing at times.
VolcanoCam Rescue: In the spring of 2008 Johnston
Ridge was snowed in for several months and the highway
closed with twenty feet of snow at the Center. Search and
rescue teams were put on alert when what looked like a
distress sign was placed in front of the volcano cam by
what was thought to be hikers. It turned out to be a playful
part-time USFS crew clearing snow away from the volcano
cam which was soon evident when a "garden gnome"
figurine became visible on the volcano cam (see at right ).
