QuantumShift.tv "Be the Change, Share the Story" Contest    
Contest runs from September 4, 2007 to April 30, 2008

The NAAEE has teamed up with QuantumShift.tv to launch the 'Be the Change, Share the Story! School Video Contest. The contest is challenging 5,000 teams of students at schools across the US and Canada to make a difference and tell the world.



Teams pick a social or environmental project and create two short videos about their project. The first video tells how the team plans to make a difference, and the follow up video shows the team in action, making a difference!



Students, viewers, and celebrity judges can log on and vote for their favorite videos. The top teams in each age group will win $50,000 in cash and prizes for their schools. Quantum Shift.tv wants to empower kids to Be the Change, and Share the Story."

Captain Planet Foundation Grants    
Deadline: December 31, 2008

The Captain Planet Foundation is accepting applications for funding projects that help students better grasp environmental issues. Projects must promote understanding of environmental issues, focus on hands-on activities, involve students ages 6 to 18, promote interaction and cooperation within a group, help young people develop planning and problem-solving skills, include adult supervision, and commit to follow-up communication with the Foundation.

EPA P3 Student Sustainable Design Competition    
Deadline: December 21, 2006

The U.S. EPA is looking for cutting-edge technology that could protect the environment while growing the economy through it's People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) program. The agency plans to award up to $1.25 million in grants that enable teams of college students to research, develop, and design scientific and technical solutions to sustainability challenges that protect the environment while achieving continued economic prosperity.

NOAA Hollings Scholarship    
Deadline: April 22, 2006

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. Hollings scholarship program for undergraduates studying oceanic, environmental, biological, and atmospheric sciences, mathematics, engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences including geography, physics, hydrology, geomatics, or teacher education that support NOAA's programs.

Equator Prize ~ Call for Nominations    
Deadline: October 31, 2006

The Equator Prize recognizes five community-based projects that demonstrate extraordinary achievement in reducing poverty through the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in the equatorial belt. Prize winners receive international recognition, an opportunity to help shape international policy and practice, and $30,000 each.

Pennsylvania Environmental Education Grants Program    
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) sets aside 5% of the pollution fines and penalties collected annually to stimulate environmental education in Pennsylvania. This allocation established a grants program that funds sound EE projects.

Ohio Sea Grant College Program and Stone Laboratory      
Ohio Sea Grant, based at Ohio State University, funds education, research, and outreach activities to enhance the use, development, and wise management of Lake Erie and other Great Lakes resources. It is affiliated with Stone Laboratory which offers courses to teachers, college students and high school students through classroom, laboratory, and field studies at Gibraltar Island on Lake Erie.

Cottonwood Foundation    
The Cottonwood Foundation offers small grants to local community organizations (including school-based groups) that use volunteer energies to protect the environment and promote cultural diversity. Cottonwood is interested primarily in funding that makes a difference for local community empowerment.

Rockwell Collins Green Communities Grants ~ Iowa    
Deadline: March 3, 2006

Rockwell Collins' environmental initiative, the Green Communities Program, is designed to help fund grassroots environmental projects in the communities in which Rockwell Collins operates.

Clean Air Communities (CAC)    
CAC will initially administer up to $5 million, donated by Con Edison, to implement clean air strategies for selected community-based projects in New York City.

Johnny Elmseed Regional Nursery Project    
A community service project sponsored by the Elm Research Institute. The mission of ERI is to restore elms to cities and towns, while simultaneously helping to raise funds for organizations such as Boy Scouts and other non-profit volunteer groups.

National Center for Environmental Research    
The EPA's National Center for Environmental Research awards grants to fund environmental research. Such offers are available to academic institutions and students as well as small businesses.

Hudson River Foundation    
Through the Foundation's three Funds, the Hudson River Fund, the Hudson River Improvement Fund and the New York City Environmental Fund, the foundation awards grants and fellowships.

Morris K. Udall Foundation Scholarship Program    
Deadline: March 3, 2006

The 2006 scholarship program will offer 80 scholarships of up to $5000 and 50 honorable mentions of $350 for sophomore and junior undergraduate students who are demonstrating commitment to careers related to the environment; or to tribal public policy or health care and are Native American or Alaska Native.

Wild Gift Wilderness Experience

The Wild Gift is a 17-month wilderness experience for five students and young professionals, ages 18 to 30. The most important requirement is a record of accomplishment that reflects leadership talent.

Young Naturalist Awards    
Deadline: March 2, 2009

The American Museum of Natural History's Young Naturalist Awards program is a science-based competition inviting students (grades 7-12) to plan and conduct their own scientific investigations. The project will include questions, hypotheses, and trips into the field to gather data. Students will then write about their investigations in essays that include artwork and/or photographs that help illustrate their findings. Build an Outdoor Classroom at Your School Grants    
Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation, International Paper, and National Geographic Explorer! classroom magazine outdoor classroom grant program to help schools improve their science curriculum by engaging students in hands-on experiences outside the traditional classroom. Grants up to $2,000 will be awarded to at least 100 schools and grants for up to $20,000 may be awarded to schools or school districts with major outdoor classroom projects. Proposals are reviewed three times a year.

Northern Forest Partnership Grant Program

Grant program is a collaboration of the Northern Forest Center, the North East State Foresters Association (NEFA) and the USDA Forest Service. This competitive grant program is for community-based or local projects in 2005, promoting diverse and sustainable economies built upon a well-managed forested landscape.

Volvo Adventure

The Volvo Adventure International competition is an award for young people (ages 10-16) working in groups of 2-5 people who are engaged in local environmental projects, supporting EE efforts in schools and local communities.

National Fish and Wildlife Foundation - Grants      
"The Foundation awards funds to projects benefitting conservation education, habitat protection and restoration, and natural resource management. Federal and private funds are provided to the Foundation and awarded as challenge grants to on-the-ground conservation projects. Professional Naturalist Fellowships ~ Minnesota    
Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center Experiential, Environmental Educator Training Program. Participants in the fellowship spend nine months developing teaching, interpretive, and public relations techniques, plus many other skills related to residential environmental education. Bullitt Foundation

Scholarships to the Amazon Rainforest Workshop

K-12 teachers and environmental educators can win a $1000 scholarship to travel to the Amazon and work with scientists in one of the most diverse environments in the world. The Amazon Rainforest Workshop for Educators, scheduled July 5-14, 2005, is a professional development opportunity for teachers to experience a 1/4 mile canopy walkway and visit the indigenous people who call the rainforest ecosystem their home. EPA Environmental Education Grant Program    
The Grant Program sponsored by EPA’s Office of Environmental Education supports environmental education projects that enhance the public’s awareness, knowledge, and skills to make informed decisions that affect environmental quality. Since 1992, EPA has received between $2 and $3 million in grant funding per year and has awarded about 2,500 grants.

Chesapeake Bay Trust    
The Chesapeake Bay Trust invites Maryland non-profit organizations, environmental education centers, and public agencies working in the Chesapeake Bay watershed to submit proposals for programs that promote meaningful restoration, protection, and Chesapeake Bay experiences in Maryland schools. The Trust has targeted $400,000 for this grant program.

2009 Volvo Adventure Awards    
Deadline: January 31, 2009

In collaboration with the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), the Volvo Adventure Award rewards young people creating their own environmental projects. There are two competitions for the 2009 awards. The Adventure Award is for youth, ages 13-16, working in groups of two to five, that are actively involved in devising and managing the project. The second competition is the Great Big Bob the Bunny Cartoon contest for youth under the age of 13, to create a cartoon picture using Bob the bunny.

Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) Fellowship

The ELP Fellowship provides intensive leadership and skills training with opportunities for mentoring, project seed money, and technical support. Adobe Community Action Grants

Adobe Systems awards one-time grants for one year general operating and program support ranging from $5,000-$20,000. Focus areas include Creativity in Education and Commitment to Community. NASA Global Climate Change Education Funding

NASA is soliciting proposals for Global Climate Change Education. NASA's goal for this effort is to improve the quality of global climate change and Earth system science education at the elementary, secondary, and undergraduate levels. Each funded proposal is expected to take advantage of NASA's unique contributions in climate science to enhance students' academic experiences and/or to improve educators' abilities to engage and stimulate their students.

The Environmental Education & Training Partnership (EETAP) has a limited number of scholarships available to EE leaders interested in taking the online "Applied EE Program" (February 20 – May 5) or "Fundamentals of EE" (February 6 – April 21) courses. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ocean Fund    
Letters of Interest Deadline: June 30, 2008

The Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Ocean Fund supports efforts to restore and maintain a healthy marine environment, minimize the impact of human activity on this environment, and promote awareness of ocean and coastal issues and respect for marine life. The program seeks projects that will have a clear benefit to local communities and/or will support regional or national nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to help ensure the survival of a species or preserve coastal or marine habitat. Grant amounts average between $25,000 and $50,000 each, though there is no predetermined maximum. Grants are made for one calendar year only.

Rachel Carson Scholar Program

Blue Water Project Leadership Grants Pool

The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) Blue Water Project Leadership Grants program is designed to foster a culture of water stewardship in Canada and abroad. The first phase of the project is a ten-year, $50 million grant program comprising three streams: Visionary, Leadership, and Community Action Grants. The first Visionary Grant was a $10 million commitment to the One Drop Foundation, established by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte. RBC Blue Water Project grants focus on two key areas: watershed protection and programs related to safe drinking water. Grants are available to support projects in Canada, the U.S., and 36 other countries where RBC operates and will range from $25,000 to $500,000 each, up to a total of $1.5 million.
