Two New Contests for Students in PA, DE, NJ, MD    
Jane Kirkland, naturalist and author of the award-winning Take A Walk® Book series, is sponsoring two new annual contests for students.

Why I Love My Pennsylvania State Park? -- Open to children (ages 8-12) who live in Pennsylvania. Deadline: October 31, 2005

Grand Prize for the State Park contest includes a pair of binoculars and the student will help lead a public nature walk in the park about which they wrote, accompanied by author Kirkland and naturalist/bird tour leader Kevin Loughlin of Wildside Tours.

Why I Love the Nature in My Schoolyard? -- Open to students (Grades 3-6) in PA, DE, NJ, and MD. Deadline: October 30, 2005

The Schoolyard contest includes a grand prize winner in each of the four states who will win a free assembly at their school by author Kirkland as well as a wild bird feeding station for their schoolyard compliments of Wild Bird Centers of America. First-place winners also win a set of Take A Walk® Books along with a set for their school library or state park.

Children are invited to write an original essay, 50 words or less, about the nature in their schoolyard or Pennsylvania State Park (children may enter both contests) and why they appreciate seeing the flora and fauna in their area.
