Groundwater is water that is found in cracks and spaces in soil, sand and rocks. It lies almost everywhere on the surface of the earth.


The Groundwater Foundation      
The Groundwater Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching people of all ages to care for and about groundwater. The site offers a section covering groundwater basics, what it is and why it is important, as well as a kids section full of educational activities and games.

Subsurface Contamination of Groundwater    
Students determine how difficult it is to study subsurface contaminants contained in underground storage tanks. This is an activity created by the 1991 Woodrow Wilson Biology Institute.

A water quality monitoring project for high school students, based at Southern Illinois University. Components include curriculum development and teacher training.

A Study of Your Domestic Water Supply    
Students will follow a raindrop from its source into the water supply for their houses and then back to the environment. The students will draw and/or understand a diagram of a water treatment plant and a sewage treatment plant. This is an activity created by the 1991 Woodrow Wilson Biology Institute.
