Cancer Risk Prediction & Assessment
Accurately assessing cancer risk in average- and high-risk individuals and determining
cancer prognosis in patients are crucial to controlling the suffering and death due to
cancer. Cancer prediction models provide an important approach to assessing risk and
prognosis by identifying individuals at high risk, facilitating the design and planning of
clinical cancer trials, fostering the development of benefit-risk indices, and enabling
estimates of the population burden and cost of cancer. Models also may aid in the
evaluation of treatments and interventions.
RFMMB staff, in collaboration with other NCI staff, have pursued this area of research
through a number of avenues.
