Trees for Tomorrow

Evergreen is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Province of B.C. in the delivery of Trees for Tomorrow – a five-year, $13-million initiative aimed at helping communities throughout British Columbia plant four million trees in schoolyards, hospital grounds, civic parks and other public spaces.

This exciting new program is part of a wider provincial strategy to reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by at least 33% below current levels by 2020. Evergreen is very proud to be supporting the Province as it works to fulfill its vision to “lead the world in sustainable environmental management.”

We broke ground!

On December 8, we took a huge step forward in turning the Evergreen Brick Works project into reality. Despite falling snow and temperatures that felt like —13°C, over 200 community members came out to mark our official groundbreaking.

Evergreen staff joined with Jim Flaherty, Federal Minister of Finance; Aileen Carroll, Ontario Minister of Culture; David Miller, Mayor of Toronto; David Pecaut, Chair of Toronto City Summit Alliance; Bill Downe, President and CEO of BMO Financial Group and students from Cassandra Public School to celebrate our collaboration and to plant trees signaling the official start of construction.

Evergreen Partners with CBC in New Campaign

Evergreen is excited to be a lead partner along with seven other national environmental organizations in CBC’s new national campaign One Million Acts of Green. Since its launch October 21 on The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos, this innovative call to action and registry enables Canadians coast to coast to register their eco-actions and see the cumulative benefits. So, come out to an Evergreen event and then log on to onemillionactsofgreen.com to register.

Evergreen’s Cuban Partner featured on CNN

Still from CNN video: Cuba model for urban farming

Since 1998, Evergreen has been proud to partner with La Fundación Antonio Núñez Jiménez de la Naturaleza y el Hombre (FANJ) in Havana, Cuba. Over the course of 10 years, Evergreen and the FANJ have worked together to launch Cuba’s first school ground naturalization program, and other environmental initiatives. So we were proud to see our Cuban partners on CNN recently discussing urban agriculture in Havana.

Jericho Stewardship Event

Second Sunday every month
Jericho Beach Park

With its spectacular beaches and views of Vancouver and the North Shore Mountains beyond, Jericho Beach Park is a natural oasis for residents and visitors alike. But healthy appearances notwithstanding, the park is under attack by invasive species, threatening key food and shelter sources for local wildlife.

That’s why, every month, the Jericho Stewardship Group comes together to pull invasive plants, plant native species, monitor progress and plan further restoration work. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments, gloves and tools are provided — bring your boots, sunscreen, work clothes... and your energy!
