The World Wide Biome Project is designed to have students learn about ecosystems in their locale and share their findings with students from around the world through the medium kids use - the internet. Conserve School recently became the first school in the world to become designated as an Audubon International Signature Sanctuary. Signature certification is awarded only to new developments that are designed, constructed and maintained according to Audubon International’s precise planning standards and environmental disciplines. Conserve School, located in northeastern Wisconsin near the town of Land O’ Lakes, is a private, non-sectarian college preparatory boarding school for grades 9-12. The United Nations is launching the
"Water for Life Decade" this year, to bring a higher profile to global water issues. As part of this, river enthusiasts from around the world are coming together to participate in the inaugural "World Rivers Day" on September 25th, 2005. This will be patterned after the highly successful BC Rivers Day in western Canada, which is already one of the biggest events of its kind in the world, attracting up to 75,000 people annually.
