Capacity Building

Welcome to Comprehensive Capacity Building for the field of Environmental Education

The term environmental education "capacity building" is used to describe the activities of those working to improve and strengthen the field of environmental education. Since the early 1990's the model of State-Level Comprehensive Environmental Education Programs, better known as "the wheel," depicted below has been used to define the components many environmental educators identify as important for developing strong EE programs. By developing inter-related, components EE stakeholders can increase the awareness and sustainability of their efforts. This section of EE-Link features examples of successful capacity building components from throughout North America.

This project is a joint effort by the National EE Advancement Project and EE Link, a project of NAAEE, and is funded by EETAP, the national training program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Environmental Education established through the National EE Act of 1990. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) administers EETAP through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
