Transportation Statistics Annual Report (TSAR) 1998

This year's report includes a detailed analysis of long-distance passenger travel and freight activity. The analysis is drawn from the American Travel Survey and the Commodity Flow Survey conducted by BTS and the U.S. Census Bureau. It identifies major long-distance travel corridors and the characteristics of travelers and shows the importance of long-haul freight to economic relationships between states.

This report provides a comprehensive assessment of the nation's transportation system and the state of transportation statistics. This report analyzes trends and recent developments related to travel, freight movement, system extent and condition, the economic performance of transportation, safety, energy, and the environmental consequences of transportation. This report is a companion to the National Transportation Statistics report.
