Mayor Shirley Franklin talked about the financial challenges facing the city of Atlanta. Atlanta is one of the cities that have requested that the federal government use a portion of the $700 billion financial bailout to assist struggling cities. Atlanta has had crises from sewers and other infrastructure. In her last year as mayor, an estimated $60 million projected shortfall in revenue would require measures such as reduced wages for city employees, a hiring freeze, and closing some city parks and recreation areas.
