 Celebrating 30 Years of Discovery

30 Years of Nutrition Science

The USDA/ARS Children's Nutrition Research Center has been dedicated to defining the nutrient needs of children, from conception through the teen years, and the needs of pregnant women and nursing mothers for the past 30 years. Center findings enable healthcare providers and policy advisors to make dietary recommendations that will improve the health of today's children and that of generations to come.

On Oct. 31, the CNRC, a USDA-facility operated by Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, celebrates its 30th anniversary with a scientific symposium to mark its accomplishments.

Starting at 8:30 a.m., the program will include presentations on body composition, calcium metabolism, stable isotopes, animal science, plant science and growth curves. Speakers will also discuss future directions including behavioral nutrition and nutritional genomics.

Special guests include Dr. Peter Traber, BCM president and CEO, Houston Mayor Bill White, Mark Wallace, president and CEO of Texas Children’s, Gale Buchanan, USDA undersecretary for REE, and Caird Rexroad, USDA/ARS associate administrator.

The CNRC is an unique cooperative venture between Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children's Hospital and the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Agricultural Research Service. It is one of six USDA/ARS human nutrition research centers in the country.
