Per diem is the allowance for lodging (excluding taxes), meals and incidental expenses while on temporary duty travel. The General Services Administration (GSA) establishes per diem rates for destinations within the Continental United States (CONUS) for Federal travelers who travel on official business. Temporary duty travel is travel which is authorized to conduct official business away from an employee’s permanent duty station.
