Swinging Bridge Dam (P-10482) Dam Safety Remediation Project

    Public Information Meetings

Five Public Information Meetings have been held regarding the progress of the Swinging Bridge Dam rehabilitation program. Meetings on May 25, 2005; July 14, 2005; November 17, 2005; March 2, 2006 and July 27, 2006 were held at the Forestburgh Fire Hall. Representatives of Mirant and FERC, along with local public officials conducted a briefing and question/answer session with the local residents of the Swinging Bridge Mongaup River area.

During the most recent meeting on July 27, 2006, Mirant reported on the progress that had been made to date and outlined the schedule for completing the repairs to the dam. In addition to announcing the anticipated completion of repairs by November 1, 2006 and the re-filling of the reservoir to its normal level of 1070 feet by April 2007, Mirant also announced that they had begun actively attempting to sell their licensed hydroelectric projects along the Mongaup River. Although early in the process, Mirant representatives indicated that a number of companies with hydroelectric operating experience had indicated an interest in the projects. As at the preceding meetings a commitment was made to keep the Public informed of the progress of work and any significant changes. A Public Meeting to discuss the status of the Project is currently being planned and coordinated.
