Project Portfolio: A look at RTC's trail-planning work
In addition to being an advocate for trail-friendly policies and a technical assistance resource center, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) engages in on-the-ground work for specific projects. Trail advocates and planners looking to add RTC to their team can work with our national office, regional field offices or with TrailDART, a for-hire service that brings together RTC staff from across the nation. Our unique expertise comes from 22 years of compiling trails data, understanding federal and state policies and assisting trail groups, and can be a powerful addition to a project.
Our services include:
- Development of concept plans
- Corridor inventory and assessment
- Feasibility studies
- GIS Mapping and analysis
- Alternatives analysis
- Regional and urban trail system plans
- Funding program assessments
- Work on Safe Routes to School programs
- Rail-with-Trail assistance
- Facilitation of public involvement
- Training workshops and public presentations
- Trail management plans
- ...and more
Through extensive "on-the-ground" staff experience, RTC has attained specialized expertise of value to government agencies, consulting firms and community groups. Our place-based work teams offer full-service assistance to communities in all aspects of trail building, from initial consultation to trail development and beyond.
RTC offers a comprehensive one-day course to introduce local trail supporters to the basics of trail building. Take a look at our Successful Strategies for Trail Development Workshop brochure for more information.
