The Capital Projects Database contains descriptions, funding levels and status for over 19,000 capital projects in Alaska communities. The Division of Community and Regional Affairs (DCRA) gathers this information from about twenty State and federal agencies that fund projects in Alaska.
The database was originally started as the “Rural Alaska Project Information Delivery System” (RAPIDS) as an internal DCRA database to track capital funding for projects in rural Alaska. The database was meant to provide a place where agencies could list their projects for each rural community. RAPIDS soon fulfilled a need across the board by providing a place for agencies to list ongoing projects and collaborate with other agencies on project timing.
Through the years, larger communities, regardless of rural status, were added to the database. Currently, any capital projects for which an agency provides information are added to the database, including some statewide projects that fund many communities. In January of 2006, “RAPIDS” was changed to “Alaska Capital Projects Database” because the system is no longer exclusively for rural Alaska.
Many agencies and individuals use this database to find out what projects will be built in the future throughout the state. Some use the information to plan training and workforce development activities; others use it to identify potential cost saving opportunities with multiple projects happening in the same community, and others use the database to keep abreast of activity in order to explore work opportunities. Still others use it as a historical source, since it includes information from the early 1980’s to the present.

Caution ! Retrieving data for ALL communities may take several minutes to display on your monitor. Your system may "time out" if your bandwidth is low. In addition, printing this information would require several hundred pages.
Data may also be obtained in alternate forms (i.e. CD-ROM, Excel Spreadsheets) by contacting the Research and Analysis staff . If you need to download large amounts of data or need specific information for numerous communities, it may be best if you contact us directly so that we can run your query and send you the information.
