Washington, D.C.—Congressman Geoff Davis is pleased to announce that the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded $155,534 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program.
The AFG program is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA).
The Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded funds under the AFG’s Operations and Safety Program. This program provides assistance to eligible fire departments and EMS organizations for training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities. The Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department plans to use the funds to purchase an interoperable secondary repeated operations fire channel and an automated accountability system.
Congressman Davis stated, “These grants will help keep residents of Williamstown safe. This important federal funding allows our fire departments to obtain essential equipment, vehicles and protective gear. My office was proud to help the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department secure these funds. I welcome any other fire departments who would like assistance with federal grants to contact my office.”
“On behalf of the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department, I want to thank Congressman Davis for his dedication to both our city and the fire department,” said Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department Chief Les Whalen. “Without his continued support, we would not have received this generous grant. We are looking forward to purchasing new equipment that will improve the efficiency of our department and further guarantee the safety of Grant County residents.”
Every year, the AFG regional staff conducts hundreds of workshops nationwide to provide up-to-date AFG program information to applicants. In 2009, AFG regional staff will once again host workshops throughout Kentucky. Dates and locations will be announced in the coming months.
