Congressman Davis Appointed to House Committee on Ways and Means

Washington, D.C. – The House Republican Steering Committee today appointed Congressman Geoff Davis to serve on the House Committee on Ways and Means.

“The Ways and Means Committee will play a central role in resolving the major issues facing Kentucky and the nation. I look forward to working hard with all my colleagues—both Democrat and Republican—to help guide our economy and our nation toward a more prosperous future,” Congressman Davis stated.

Congressman Dave Camp [R-MI], Republican Ranking Member on the Ways and Means Committee, said, “Congressman Davis is a valued legislator who will bring a wealth of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to the Ways and Means Committee. These characteristics will serve the Committee well as we work towards solutions to the challenges that are facing our country. Geoff is a great asset to his constituents and a welcome addition to the Committee.”

The House Committee on Ways and Means is one of the oldest standing committees in the House. The Constitution requires every tax bill to originate in the House of Representatives; with jurisdiction over revenue-raising measures, the Ways and Means Committee is responsible for initiating all tax legislation. In addition to taxes, the Committee has authority over trade, Social Security, health care, Medicare, Medicaid and social welfare issues.
