Congressman Donnelly Continues to Press for More Stimulus Funds for Communities Hardest Hit by Economy

Organizes letter to Congressional leaders

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly continued his efforts to direct stimulus relief to those communities that are suffering the most.  In a letter written by Congressman Donnelly and co-signed by 38 members of Congress, Donnelly urged Congressional leaders of both parties to give special consideration in the economic stimulus package to those communities that have been disproportionately impacted by high unemployment and foreclosure rates, loss of tax base, and municipal revenue shortfalls.

“I organized this letter to stress the importance of helping communities, like Elkhart and Kokomo, that are struggling the most,” Donnelly said. “The fact that so many of my colleagues have joined me demonstrates that many in Congress share my concerns and recognize the importance of providing immediate relief to these communities.”

Donnelly sent the letter as the House of Representatives is expected to begin debating stimulus legislation next week.

“I want to put down a marker for the workers, businesses and towns who have been hurt the most. I will continue to work, along with my colleagues, to do whatever I can to help our communities.”

Donnelly sent a similar letter to President-elect Obama last month.
