Heller Named to Subcommittees on Taxes And Income Security

January 9, 2009

(Washington, DC) – Today U.S. Congressman Dean Heller (R-NV) was selected to Ways and Means Subcommittees on Select Revenues Measures and Income Security and Family Support.

“Nevada has been hit hard by the economic downturn.  Congress needs to embrace pro-growth policies to get our economy back on track.  At the same time, we need to assist those who have lost their jobs and need a helping hand.  These subcommittees put me at the forefront of the debate on solutions to our nation’s very serious economic and unemployment problems.  This Committee is ground zero for getting our economy back on track,” said Heller.

The Committee on Ways and Means is the chief tax-writing committee of the United States House of Representatives.  It is an exclusive committee that has jurisdiction over all taxation, tariffs and other revenue-raising measures as well as Social Security and Medicare.  The Subcommittee on Select Revenues Measures has jurisdiction over tax policy prior to full Committee consideration.  Income Security and Family Support Subcommittee has oversight of the Federal-State system of unemployment compensation, certain Social Security Act programs, food stamps, and child and family services.
