Zumwalt Destroyer Program

Digitial TV Conversion

“Analog television broadcasting will end on February 17, 2009.  After this date, all full power stations will broadcast only in digital.  Digital broadcasting will result in clearer pictures, better sound and more available channels.  All viewers who do not already own digital televisions or converters will have to take action to avoid losing reception.

They have 3 options:

  • Purchase a new TV with a digital tuner built in.  All TVs purchased since March 2007 should be equipped with a digital tuner.
  • Subscribe to a service that will help with the transition like cable or satellite.
  • Purchase a digital to analog converter box, which costs $50-$70.  The government has been distributing $40 coupons to assist with these purchases and will continue to do so until March 31, 2009.  You can apply for coupons either by phone at 1-888-DTV-2009, online at www.dtv2009.gov, or by mail.  Applications are available at US post offices.  There is a limit of two coupons per household.”
